Northern Field Cricket

Identification: Length 30mm. Black. Wings drawn out to a long point behind.
Once it gets dark and the outside lights go on at our house, hundreds of insects fly onto our porch. These range from beetles to earwigs, fireflies to crickets. This Northern Field Cricket is a regular visitor and depending on the time of year and how warm it is, some nights it's almost like a plague has hit our house!
The males of these crickets chirp repeatedly around dusk, a sound which always makes me think of warm, tropical nights.
