Ornate Burrowing Frog

Identification: Length 45mm. Rotund, blunt nose and short legs. Variety of colours.

Burrowing frogs, as their name suggest burrow into the ground to sleep. The ornate burrowing frog, seen here is one of the few frogs that actually burrows backwards. I found both these handsome fellows in the garden at night foraging, this is the most common time to find them. These two are quite similar in appearance but the colours and markings on ornate burrowing frogs do differ quite a lot.
