Lerista zonulata

Identification: 45mm. Limbs small, four fingers & toes. Bronze body, 4 rows of black dots on back.

Skinks come in all shapes and sizes. Some large and slow, some lithe and swift. Some have well developed legs, others have no limbs at all. We consider ourselves very lucky to have come across this fellow on our patio, as although this particular type of skink is widespread they are very secretive and seldom seen.
The Lerista zonulata has very small limbs and as a result moved more like a snake than any lizard that I have seen before. It's scales are very smooth and shiny.
